Janet Hubert, aka Fresh Prince of Bel Air’s Aunt Viv, isn’t here for Jada Pinkett Smith‘s Oscar boycott.
Pinkett Smith called out the Oscars for having an all-white slate of nominees in all major categories (her husband, Will Smith, was considered by the Academy for his role in Concussion). She’s called for a boycott, including watching the show on TV.
Hubert is no less interested in the standing of black actors in Hollywood, but she disagrees with Pinkett Smith’s methods — and the fact husband Will, the actual Oscar contender, is nowhere to be found.

She says, “First of all, Miss Thing, does your man not have a mouth of his own with which to speak?… The second thing, girlfriend, there’s a lot of shit going on in the world that you all don’t seem to recognize. People are dying. Our boys are being shot left and right. People are starving. People are trying to pay bills. And you’re talking about some motherf***ing actors and Oscars. It just ain’t that deep.”

She accuses Pinkett Smith of going too far, “And here’s the other thing, for you to ask other actors, and other black actresses and actors, too, to jeopardize their career and their standing in a town that you know damn well you don’t do that.”
The video has already garnered over 120,000 views. Fans seem supportive of her perspective, while also praising Jada’s bold move. Comments range from, “This is an OSCAR winning youtube!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” to “She has SEVERAL valid points….sidebar Wendy Williams is going to have a field day with this tomorrow”.
