The reaction to the 88th Annual Academy Award nominations has reached a fever pitch in the last few days. With the major players in the film world calling for a boycott of the show, the #OscarsSoWhite discussion is now impacting the soap world.
On Monday, former The Young and the Restless star Victoria Rowell posted some direct words about the issue of diversity in all of the entertainment industry. This isn’t the first time she’s blasted Hollywood on social media, but this is the first time she’s holding every medium accountable.

This call to action comes on the heels of her own lawsuit against CBS and Sony for racial discrimination during the time she played Drucilla Winters on the daytime soap.
The actress left the show in 2007 after she claimed, in court documents obtained by Radar Online, there was a “lack of racial equity on set at Y&R resulted in me being on the receiving end of various racially charged attacks, by white Y&R actors and executives.”
The suit was dismissed in November 2015, but Rowell’s lawyers have filed for an appeal.

The actress wants her fans to not only boycott daytime shows without diversity, she wants the ban to include primetime series as well. If she were successful with blacklisting certain shows, this would have a far and wide impact in the industry.
The reaction to her tweet was a mixed bag. Rowell had a few tweets of support, but most dismissed her cry as sour grapes for her own situation.
