Holy cow, X-Files fans! It looks like we might honestly, seriously, finally get to find out what happened to Mulder and Scully’s baby… and I almost can’t handle it!

Let’s be honest, tonight’s episode, “Founders Mutation”, was everything a classic X-Files monster-of-the-week episode should be: creepy, spine-tingling and more than a little bit gross. Not only did Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully (Gillian Anderson) investigate a crooked doctor with a super-unsettling collection of genetically manipulated children, but we got to see a woman cut her pregnant stomach open in order to save her unborn child.

Yuck!
But the real feels came courtesy of Mulder and Scully’s imagined versions of their missing son’s life.

That’s right, not only did they actually talk about baby William, but we also got windows into their individual fantasies of what raising him might have been like. The segments were all kinds of heartrending — especially since both Mulder and Scully live such insanely dangerous lives that even their fantasies can’t help but turn into nightmares about their son being abducted or mutated by aliens.

After last night’s premiere episode, it was obvious that baby William’s fate — long shrouded in mystery — was on the table for this season, but so were a lot of new conspiracy theory elements. And with only six episodes in total, it was anybody’s guess how deep the William story line was going to get.
Well, with so much attention paid to the missing baby in Episode 2, I’m willing to bet we’re going to finally get some answers about his whereabouts. Either that or fans will demand the show come back again and again until it does. I mean, there’s no way show creator Chris Carter would build so much of this season’s story line around Scully’s abduction, alien DNA and baby without giving us some sort of answers, right?

Plus there’s this official X-Files clip released all about little William and the grief both agents have suffered at his loss.
I mean, come on. This season is totally going to revolve around William — at least, that’s what I want to believe.
