News broke Sunday of the tragic death of her ex-husband, Monty Brinson, after a battle with cancer. Richards had yet to speak publicly about Brinson’s passing, until Monday afternoon, when she posted a sweet photo of him and reminisced about their love.
“Yesterday I said goodbye to the best friend I’ve ever had in my life…Monty was an amazing person with an amazing soul,” she wrote alongside the photo, which showed her and Brinson dancing at their daughter Brooke Brinson’s wedding in 2014. “We shared over 30 years of love & happiness and brought a beautiful daughter into the world. I am so grateful for all that we shared. I know we will be together again one day. I love you Monty.”

She continued, “My angel in heaven…and I know that we will be together again one day. I will carry you in my heart always my love…until then, may you rest in peace.”
Richards’ brother-in-law broke the news of Brinson’s passing on Sunday, releasing a statement that read, “We have lost Monty Brinson after a brave battle with cancer. His heart was as big as the moon and he was loved by all he met. He will be sorely missed. I love you always!”
Brinson and Richards were married from 1985 to 1988. They remained close friends even after their divorce, and Brinson frequently appeared on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alongside Richards.
Before Richards broke her silence, reports quoted sources close to the family saying she was “devastated” and that other family members were extremely worried about her maintaining her sobriety amid her grief.
“Everyone’s worried about Kim in the same way they’re always kind of worried about her,” a source told E! News. “No one wants to see Kim’s health take a step backwards because of grief.”
