Kim Richards is ditching RHOBH for a new show

After a series of terrible events, Kim Richards is returning to reality TV.

Kim Richards hasn’t yet appeared on the current season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, but that hasn’t stopped the rest of the cast from discussing her and every awful thing that’s happened to her lately, as well as in her past — her legal troubles, strained relationships with her family, and her time spent in rehab, among other things. It does seem like one thing is looking up for Richards, though, and that’s her new reality TV project.

Richards and her daughter Kimberly Jackson have signed on to be a part of Lifetime’s new show, The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition. It’s essentially Couples Therapy for family members; six mother-and-daughter pairs will deal with their emotional baggage with the help of Dr. Debbie Magids.

The other pairs include Heidi Montag and her mother Darlene Egelhoff, Courtney Stodden and her mother Krista Stodden, Shar Jackson and her daughter Cassie, Natalie Nunn and her mother Karen, and Jessica Canseco and her daughter Jessica.

Richards’ children have been fiercely protective and loyal to her during difficult times, but most of their support has happened behind the scenes. Kimberly, who appeared on RHOBH, is a college student and hasn’t exactly been a reality TV icon. Richards’ struggle with addiction has undoubtedly impacted her relationships with her children, and it will be interesting to learn to what degree.

Fans of RHOBH will recall that Richards has exhibited distressing behavior on camera before — there was that time at the poker game when she admitted to taking some pills, her numerous disappearances, a really uncomfortable car ride with co-star Lisa Rinna, and more.

There’s still speculation out there that Richards isn’t totally sober, and the recent loss of her ex-husband and close friend Monty Brinson might be another reason to worry about Richards’ health. Her new show promises to be emotional, and it likely will be painful to watch her and Kimberly deal with issues that might once have been private, but are now everyone’s to behold.
