Vanderpump Rules‘ Scheana Shay spoke to SheKnows about conflict on the show, what viewers miss and why everyone should watch the reunion.

If you are a fan of Bravo’s Vanderpump Rules, you know Scheana Shay. Scheana’s reputation preceeded her before she started working at SUR — she’d already appeared on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hillswith Brandi Glanville to discuss Brandi’s ex-husband, Eddie Cibrian, with whom Scheana had had a relationship while Glanville and Cibrian were still married. Castmate Stassi Schroeder was immediately suspicious of Scheana and maligned her as soon as she arrived at SUR, but since the first season of VPR, things have certainly changed for Scheana. Viewers have seen her get engaged and then married to longtime boyfriend Michael Shay, command her own crew on the show and put out fires between friends Kristen Doute, Ariana Madix and Tom Sandoval.
So far in Season 4, there have been bumps in the road for the whole VPR cast, and Scheana is no exception. In an interview with SheKnows, Scheana talked about fighting with her friends, what gets filmed and how she feels about fans not getting the whole story.

SheKnows: You and Ariana have been so close and this season you’ve been fighting. It’s hard to watch! Where are you two now in your relationship?
Scheana Shay: We’re actually in a really good place right now! We’ve had several conversations and things are back to normal. What you saw on the show wasn’t the full story. It wasn’t weird for us to text each other’s moms. Ariana wasn’t in the greatest place in her career at that time, she was down in the dumps and her mom was reaching out to me. Tom is a great boyfriend, but at the time this happened, he did have a cocky attitude — he demanded an appearance fee from SUR. I don’t regret saying those things, I meant them. And I’m literally a different person than I was last summer and it’s hard when things happen off-camera that aren’t a part of the show. I get all this crap because I can’t tell the full story.
SheKnows: At this point, is it even possible that you and Stassi could repair your relationship? What would you need from her?
Scheana: Sure, it might be possible. Stassi thinks I did things that I did not do, and I would need her to acknowledge that I didn’t do those things. She thought I had a copy of her sex tape and I was showing it to everyone, when actually I was trying to get it pulled. I was trying to keep people from seeing it and so was Lisa.
SheKnows: A lot of VPR viewers are probably wondering how you could repair/maintain your relationship with Kristen after everything that’s happened. Why did you decide to let her back into your life?
Scheana: I get the conflict, but I don’t choose my friends based on how they treat each other, I choose them based on how they treat me. I love my friendship with Kristen. I don’t talk shit about Kristen to Ariana — I might have to recap something, that’s part of our job. If we don’t explain something, the viewers might not understand. Ariana and I now have an understanding that our friendship is our friendship, but if I’m having a birthday party or something, Kristen is going to be there. It doesn’t mean I’m being less of a friend to Ariana.
SheKnows: Earlier this season, you defended Lala after James called her a “basic bitch,” and then you followed it up by saying you weren’t a feminist. What does feminism mean to you?
Scheana: I guess in a sense, I am a feminist, but I meant in this situation, like, I’m not an extremist. I know what feminism is, but I’m not all women empowerment, marching in the streets. I’m not a die-hard girl’s girl. I’m more about what’s right than having the girl’s back no matter what.
SheKnows: What do you want to tell fans about the rest of the season?
Scheana: I just want people to chill out and wait for the reunion. I know how everything looks right now, but just wait.
