Céline Dion shares touching tribute to her late husband in Las Vegas

René Angélil’s friends and family gathered for a memorial honoring his memory on Wednesday.

The memorial was fittingly held at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, the performance venue where his wife Céline Dion has spent the past few years performing. According to Entertainment Tonight, Dion teared up as she shared memories of her late husband, the “love of her life.” Dion herself chose not to sing at the event, instead giving a 20-minute speech devoted to her late husband. She told friends she can “still feel his strength and his warmth.”

“Let me start by saying good evening, good friends. René, the love of my life, would be so happy to know we are here together. I feel the love in this room,” she said. “René never hated anyone. Is it possible someone loves everybody? I don’t think so. But he never told me a person he disliked… Time was precious to him. He loved life so much, so very much.

“I was never part of any of the meetings that he had where he had to say yes or no. He protected me from day one to the rest of my life, I am pretty sure of that,” she recounted.

Music producer David Foster continued the tribute with a rendition of “The Colour of my Love,” the same song he played at the couple’s 1994 wedding. Angélil died on Jan. 14, just two days before Dion’s brother Daniel also passed away of cancer.
