Warning: The following contains spoilers from the Supergirl episode titled “For the Girl Who Has Everything.”
This week’s episode of Supergirl centered around Kara being attacked by a telepathic alien parasite called Black Mercy and had some fans grabbing their tissue boxes because of Alex’s emotion while trying to save her sister — not to mention, the sudden death of the controversial Aunt Astra.
However, as poignant as some of Alex’s lines might have been, many viewers were still left scratching their heads over some things in the episode that didn’t make a whole lot of sense. Here are some examples of what wasn’t really adding up.

1. Kara didn’t hear Black Mercy coming
As mentioned after watching the end of last week’s episode, Kara was attacked from behind by Black Mercy, which was able to sneak up on her without being detected. One of Kara’s superpowers is bionic hearing, so how did Black Mercy creep up without Kara hearing it until it was too late?
2. Black Mercy’s appearance

Black Mercy wasn’t looking too realistic. But that’s not a huge surprise considering what some of the other villains in the show have looked like in past episodes.
3. Cat’s reaction to Kara breaking things off with Adam
Cat is blaming Kara for “driving Adam away” just as she was getting close with him again, and the reaction seems out of character. Sure, Cat has a knack for being hilariously wicked, but, as a high-powered woman, wouldn’t she know that romantic relationships don’t always work out? The subplot seems forced, like they can’t think of a better way to create friction between Kara and Cat.
4. Alex gets emotional with the hologram of Kara’s mother
Why is this character bearing her soul to a non-sentient hologram? It'd be like me confiding in Siri. #Supergirl

The scene where Alex is yelling at the hologram of Alura seems out of place. Alex is an intelligent character, so why was she expecting a hologram to have answers for her? True, she could be using it as an emotional outlet, but she had to know she was barking up the wrong tree if she was looking for real help.
5. They weren’t cautious after extracting Black Mercy from Kara

As we’ve witnessed in this episode and the last, Black Mercy is quick and deadly. So it’s a little strange that no one seems alarmed or makes an effort to capture it after it removed itself from Kara’s torso.
6. Alex murdering Aunt Astra

Alex appeals to Astra’s emotion and love for Kara and then suddenly kills her when she threatens J’onn J’onzz. As mentioned before, Alex is an intelligent character and we as viewers were beginning to understand that Astra wasn’t truly evil — Alex would have had to know how much the decision to kill Astra would affect Kara.

7. The happy-go-lucky ending

Traumatic parasitic alien attack, family member killed and the threat of a Non attack looming — but let’s all giggle and braid each other’s hair now, shall we? The end scene of this episode didn’t fit with the tone of the rest of the plot.
