Tom Hardy may be suiting up for a future role in the James Bond franchise

Daniel Craig is reportedly done with the James Bond franchise, after a decade as the infamous British Secret Service agent, and speculation is rife as to who will be stepping into his shoes.

The chatter surrounding the next Bond began after Craig’s plans to star in the BBC adaptation of Jonathan Franzen novel Purity were revealed, sparking rumours that he would be leaving the franchise — a decision which he has previously been vocal about, as he once claimed he’d “rather slash his wrists” than do a fifth Bond film.

People are so convinced that this is the end of Craig’s reign that bookies are already taking bets on who the next Bond will be — and odds are in Mad Max: Fury Road actor Tom Hardy‘s favour.

On Monday bookmakers Ladbrokes revealed that they are convinced Hardy will be the next 007.

Speaking to The Independent of their decision, a spokesperson for the company said, “Our spies are convinced Hardy will be the next 007. The run of bets has shaken the Bond betting and for the time being, we’re taking a breather.”

According to SBC News, bookmaker William Hill has placed Hardy at 5/2 to become the eighth Bond.

“There will be a number of very frantic phone calls from actors’ agents this morning with one of the hottest roles in cinema history potentially up for grabs,” William Hill Press Officer, Joe Crilly said.

But Hardy is not the only star in the running for Bond: so too are Damian Lewis with odds of 3/1, Jack O’Connell with odds of 4/1 and Idris Elba with odds of 9/2.

Betfair meanwhile had Hardy’s odds stacked at 6/5. Some pretty convincing statistics there, right?
