Amber Portwood and her fiancé Matt Baier have been the subject of speculation on this season of Teen Mom OG.
Viewers learned that Baier, 44, had children of his own, but it was never quite clear how many or just how involved he was in their lives. Gary Shirley, the father of Portwood’s daughter Leah, has accused Portwood of not knowing about Baier’s children. Baier clarifies the issue in a new interview with InTouch Weekly.

“I have five children [ranging in age from 13 to 25], and all of them have come from long-term relationships,” Baier said. Not quite the seven children that Shirley accused Baier of fathering, although he does have three grandchildren.
Baier went on to clear up any drama about claims that he’s working through multiple child support cases. “There are not seven child support cases against me — that is completely not true. I paid child support for all my kids,” he says. “I have an arrangement where I pay for education and a few other things. [However,] I don’t have to pay for two of my girls because they have been emancipated.”

Shirley’s accusations that the kids are driving a wedge between Baier and Portwood are also inaccurate, says Baier. “Amber has met them and everyone gets along.” For his part, Shirley has apologized. “[Shirley] looked me in the eyes and said, ‘I’m sorry,’” says Baier.
“It’s sad that people are coming up with these crazy stories,” Baier continued. “Amber and I have a healthy relationship. We have no secrets from each other.”
