Well, the cat’s out of the bag. During Tuesday’s Supernatural, not only did Dean time travel back to World War II via a submarine and meet a fellow “Woman of Letters” named Delphine who possessed the hand of God (more on that in a bit), but Castiel/Lucifer (aka Casifer) revealed himself as Lucifer to both Sam and Dean. Yeah, things just got a whole lot messier and grim for the boys.

Before I get to Castiel’s not-so-promising future, let’s talk about that hand of God. Sam and Dean discovered that Delphine (who was beyond badass, might I add) once came in contact with an artifact in 1943, which was said to contain some of God’s powers.
This led to Dean and Sam calling upon Casifer (at this point, they still believed him to be their angel buddy Cas) and asking him to send Dean back in time, so he could get his hands on the actual hand of God. By the way, this weapon of God also turned out to be a piece of the Ark of the Covenant. Yes, just like Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Sam and Dean came to the conclusion that this might be at least one (and maybe the only) way for them to fight The Darkness, because they really have no other options. You know, since Lucifer is back in the cage (sure he is) and God is still MIA. To make a long story short, Dean managed to get the hand of God and safely return to the bunker. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for Delphine and everyone else on the sub, who ended up dying and making Dean upset in the process. Yeah, Dean sad and almost on the verge of tears is something my heart can’t handle.

Well, seeing as Delphine touched the Ark and channeled it’s powers on the sub, there was nothing left for Casifer to consume. As he said, “It’s kicked.” Here’s hoping Sam and Dean find something similar, stat, and before Casifer, because it might be their only saving grace. Or, you know, God could finally show up and extend a helping hand.
Whatever happens, things aren’t looking good for Cas in the process. While Dean was still in 1943, Sam and Lucifer had a little tussle, but Castiel managed to escape Lucifer’s hold for a quick moment and spoke to Sam. He told Sam that he can’t eject Lucifer, and not just because he’s more powerful than he. Castiel seems to truly believe that Lucifer is the answer to getting rid of Amara once and for all. Plus, Cas is just that desperate to be “in service to the fight” and this is the only way he thinks he can help.
At the end of the episode, Sam tried to warn Dean that they might not be able to save Castiel, especially since Cas doesn’t appear to want to get rid of Lucifer. Dean isn’t convinced, which means they will do whatever it takes to rescue Castiel.
That said, with Cas being so content as Lucifer’s vessel, it looks like he might not have much of a future left.
