Rory Feek remembers the ‘incredible memories’ he was able to make with Joey

On Tuesday, Rory Feek took to Facebook to share one of his most tender memories from a family trip to Hawaii.

The trip took place in February 2015, and Feek lamented on just how magical it was to create those special memories. He shared a video of the trip, which showed his terminally ill wife, Joey, and their daughter, Indiana, spending some quality time together at the seaside and enjoying the great outdoors — and the dramatic change in Joey’s health over the past year is glaringly obvious.

Rory captioned the post with, “…remembering this morning that last February, right around this time, we took a family trip together to Hawaii celebrate my upcoming birthday. What a difference a year makes.

“The only thing that’s changed is everything. And nothing,” he wrote, adding a link to the original blog post from last year.

In the blog post, Rory discusses how they “made incredible memories that will last a lifetime!”

He went on to describe their adventures, saying they walked the “beaches, hiked craters, caught waves, climbed volcanos, road catamaran’s, drank mai-tai’s [sic] and even blew out a few candles together. It was our favorite vacation we’ve ever taken. Most of the trips that we call family vacations, are actually places where we’re playing a show and try to fit in a few days of being tourists around it. This one was different. There was no music, no plan, no rush… just us all being together as a family. I loved it.”

Fans have been visibly moved by the post, and while it will be impossible for Joey to return to Hawaii now, one fan has a beautiful idea for how the couple could relive the moment in a different way.

“Joey+Rory perhaps you could bring Hawaii to her this time,” Jamie Martin shared. “Decorate the whole room in pictures and memories, play ocean sounds and tropical bird songs, put Indy in a lei!”

It’s a beautiful idea.

The post also has helped others remember not to take the important things in life for granted, like spending time with those you love.

“Reminds us all to always cherish life that’s given,” Kristy Moore Oaks wrote. “Never know what kind of storm lies ahead. Praying u and ur [sic] family. Joey ur an amazing inspiration I pray God brings peace and comfort so you can enjoy everyday w ur loved ones!!
