Bristol Palin’s ex addresses absent-father rumors after winning custody battle

Bristol Palin‘s custody battle is over, and it didn’t go quite her way.

Though Palin once had an agreement with her ex-fiancé, Levi Johnston, stating he could have custody of their son Tripp for 13 hours a week, his court petition for equal custody has been approved by a judge.

Johnston has long claimed that the Palin family has made it almost impossible for him to see Tripp. His prior agreement with Palin allowed him to take custody on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Wednesdays from noon to 6 p.m. Now, he’ll be allowed custody at least 50 percent of the time.

“I have been getting a lot of inquiries about recent articles and headlines in the news. I have been asked what I think and while I would rather not have my words twisted in an interview I have decided to post a little statement on here,” Johnston wrote on Facebook Tuesday. “I’m so happy to have my son in my life, and to put all of this back in forth in the courts behind me. It might have taken me 7 years and cost me around $100,000 in lawyer fees, spread out among 3 different lawyers, as well as a lot of patience, but it was all worth it.” [sic]

And while there have been a lot of rumors that Johnston, who shares two daughters with his now-wife Sunny Oglesby, is a deadbeat dad, he addressed those claims in his post, too.

“Despite what some have heard I’ve always been there for him, and I go to almost every school event that I can and spend all of my free time with my kids. Right now life is really looking up for our family,” he wrote. “And I want to say that even though fathers in this country don’t usually have the upper hand in court, I encourage every father to never give up on fighting to keep their kids in their life. It’s always worth it.”
