Tyga speaks out about Kylie Jenner and their age gap

Kylie Jenner and Tyga have had to defend their relationship since the moment it went public — and Tyga says he doesn’t understand why.

They’re like a modern day Romeo and Juliet — assuming the latter was underage when the former courted her and then the former couldn’t bring himself to understand why everyone thinks their relationship is slightly inappropriate — and then insinuated that “God” wants them together, for good measure.

During a sit-down interview with San Francisco radio station KMEL’s Shay Diddy recently, Tyga spoke about his eight-year age difference with girlfriend Jenner and how he doesn’t get why many people continue to bash him for pursuing their romance. The 26-year-old “Rack City” rapper is obviously crazy about the youngest sibling in the Jenner/Kardashian family, and the two made things public last summer, when Jenner turned 18. Given the fact that they were photographed hanging out together about a year before that, many folks still can’t shake the idea that a man in his mid-20s thought it was cool to date a 17-year-old girl.

Tyga told Diddy it’s difficult for him to talk about the way critics bash them and that Kylie is “a really good person.” He added: “It’s almost like, the devil keeps trying to tell me something to not follow God, just let God do what he gotta do. So I don’t really know how to speak on that because it’s just something I have to deal with. A lot of things in life, you just gotta deal with it as it comes.”

I’m not sure if Tyga is trying to say that the critics are like the devil trying to get him not to follow a Kylie-like God? Or that he’s like God and everyone should just let Tyga-God do what he has to do (a.k.a. date Kylie)? The analogy is a bit of stretch for me, but hey, let’s remember this is a man who has not been able to shake bad publicity for falling in love with a woman who just so happened to be a teenager last year. Yeah, it doesn’t sound any better to me now, either.

Tyga continued to talk about their age gap and defend it, saying: “Me being older than her, I’ve been through a lot more things so I can help her more with it even though she’s been more in tabloid media limelight than I have been. But I can see that because I know what type of person she is. I know what she deals with.”

I think the important thing to remember here is, no matter how creepy the thought of an adult dating a very young woman, they are both of age now. What happened in the past is water under the bridge and, despite what a lot of us might think, it’s difficult to deny there isn’t something unique that keeps these two together.

At the end of the day, Tyga has gone as far as saying he wants to marry Kylie. He raves about her every chance he gets — and if Kylie’s family has given them their blessing, who cares what strangers on Twitter have to say about it? Their age difference may continue to make people roll their eyes, but the moment she turned 18, it became old news.
