“I didn’t tell anyone for I think seven years,” Gaga explained during a TimesTalk session in New York City. “I didn’t know how to think about it. I didn’t know how to accept it. I didn’t know how not to blame myself, or think it [wasn’t] my fault. It was something that really changed my life. It changed who I was completely.”
She first spoke about her rape during a 2014 interview with Howard Stern.
Gaga also dedicated the performance tonight to fellow performer Kesha, who is battling with Sony to get out of her contract with producer Dr. Luke who Kesha claims drugged and sexually assaulted her.
.@kesharose I'll be thinking of u 2nite. This is not over we'll stand by u until you are free to live a HAPPY life. Everyone deserves that.

As if all of that weren’t enough, Vice President Joe Biden kicked off the performance by introducing Gaga and encourage viewers everywhere to take a pledge to stop sexual assault. You can sign up to take the pledge at itsonus.org.
