6 ways the new Ghostbusters trailer pays homage to the original

It’s heeeeere. The official Ghostbusters trailer was just released and nope, doesn’t disappoint. Not one bit. From paying homage to the 1984 version to hitting audiences with updated jokes and twists, it looks like director Paul Feig and his cast (Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon) have done their job damn well.

That being said, of course, when a remake comes out, it’s impossible — especially for super-fans — not to compare it to the original. We all want a newer, fresher, more “now” version of the classic film, but come on: We definitely need a few nods to the Murray/Aykroyd flick.

Wondering how the 2016 Ghostbusters movie will give shoutouts to the 1984? Here are six ways the trailer has tipped us off.

1. Slimer’s back

Anyone who’s seen the original Ghostbusters knows of Slimer. And guess what? He makes a cameo in this version, as well. Ghostbusters definitely wouldn’t have been the same without him.

2. The uniforms

Just like the original cast wore, the 2016 Ghostbusters features iconic “ghostbusting” uniforms that, no doubt, will become next Halloween’s most sought-after costume.

3. The Ectomobile

The ladies will get around in style in an Ectomobile, just as the original cast did. But instead of a stylin’ white Cadillac, it’s an old ’80s Cadillac hearse. Baller.

4. The song

In the trailer, we can hear the iconic, impossible-to-get-out-of-your-head “Ghostbusters” by Ray Parker Jr., but we don’t hear Parker singing. The song also sounds slightly more modernized, so it’s unclear if Parker himself will be the one doing the singing. Though, come on, how could he not?

5. Proton pac

McCarthy, Wiig and company will be able to fight ghosts with proton packs just like their predecessors. However, these are updated, thanks to McKinnon’s nuclear physicist character, who keeps improving upon them.

6. Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson

Feig hasn’t yet disclosed how the original actors will appear in the flick — and there’s no sign of them in the trailer — but he has admitted that the three will have cameos in the film. Smart move.
