RHOA‘s Phaedra Parks runs out of excuses to tell her kids about Apollo Nida

Phaedra Parks is desperate to shield her kids from the fallout of Apollo Nida’s legal drama. However, not all RHOA viewers think that she is doing her children a favor.

Shockingly, Phaedra Parks has managed to avoid most of the drama that has dominated this season of The Real Housewives of Atlanta. This is especially surprising as, at the time of filming, she was dealing with a lot of bad publicity surrounding her divorce from her incarcerated ex-husband, Apollo Nida. That all changed this week, as Parks came under fire from viewers who criticized the way she told her children the truth about their father’s current home behind bars.

It would be nearly impossible to completely hide the details of Nida’s incarceration from her two sons, but Parks has seemingly done her best to make sure they know as little as possible. Parks claims that one of the major reasons why she hasn’t brought her children to visit Nida is that she doesn’t want them to be subjected to the prison system and think of it as a normal way of life. Her opinion that African American boys have it hard enough without being exposed to the workings of the American justice system is certainly valid. However, this seems to be a bit too convenient as an excuse. According to viewers, Parks has nobody but herself to blame for exposing her children to the world of incarceration.

This is by no means the first time one of the RHOA ladies has attempted to shield her kids from the harsh realities of life. Several weeks ago, Kim Fields did the same thing when she yanked her kids out of an important congressional meeting. This quick departure was in response to a comment about how “people do not like African American boys”. However, while there are plenty of similarities between the two situations, Twitter users just aren’t as sympathetic about Parks’ plight.

Parks’ critics seem to forget that her sons are very young and likely would have a hard time understanding the full scope of their dad’s legal issues. However, by the time he leaves prison, they won’t be so young anymore. Parks will eventually have to be a bit more forthright and, during tonight’s episode, she took a big step in that direction.
