They said it would never happen, but Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton might have a major musical surprise for fans.
Shelton has a new album coming out soon — the first single, “Came here to Forget,” will be released tomorrow — and according to a source in the know, it will include a duet with his lady love and The Voice costar Stefani.
“Both of them share a passion for music and have lately been very busy in the studio,” another insider told People. “They seem very supportive of each other’s careers.”

This is a total 180 from what Shelton has said about a possible collaboration between the two in the past. Just a few months before the now-couple confirmed they were dating, he addressed this very scenario in an interview with People.
“I don’t know musically what Gwen and I would probably ever have in common,” he told the mag. “I don’t ever see Gwen and I sitting down and writing songs.”
The duet may at least partially explain why Stefani is so psyched about Shelton’s new album (besides the fact that she is his girlfriend and being supportive is in the job description). Over the weekend, she and Kelly Clarkson had a delightful exchange talking about how great the new tunes are.

Perhaps her enthusiasm has to do with the fact that she makes an appearance on the album herself? We will find out soon!
