Amy Duggar has firmly established herself as the black sheep of the Duggar family. As the niece of Jim and Michelle Duggar, she has made a name for herself by separating herself from the values that her famous family preaches on TV.
Earlier this week, Amy talked to her Instagram followers and revealed that she is forbidden from hanging out with her cousins alone. A fan asked, “Since your cousins don’t watch TV, do they ever come over to your house and stay for a night?”

Amy answered, “We’ve had a girls (sic) night before and have gone out to eat. It’s a rule though that if I want to spend quality time with them I have to come see them. They don’t want me to influence them. So I respect their standards and I don’t fuss about it.”
Amy made headlines last year when she confirmed that she was born out of wedlock and admitted to having strayed from the fundamentalist Christian family’s strict rules. Not only does she drink alcohol but she also opted out of the “courtship” the Duggars are famous for prior to marrying her husband in September 2015.

“It used to really bother me and then I realized that I just live knowing that God gives us grace,” Amy added on Instagram. “I can only be myself and even though we don’t see eye to eye on every little thing we are still family and I do still love them :).”

Seeing Amy’s “live and let live” mindset is a great response to a situation that could tear a family apart. She seems to know exactly what’s important — quality time with her family instead of deciding whose values are right and whose are wrong. Hopefully Jim and Michelle see that as a reason Amy is a great influence on their kids.
