Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Kardashian posted a series of photos that show her blond locks in braids. She referred to herself as KhloMoney in the caption and thanked her hair and makeup team, writing, “Had to get KhloMoney back today Braided by @shidacoiffeur and face beat by@styledbyhrush.”

Kardashian is clearly pleased with her new look, and she probably didn’t anticipate the intense backlash she has received. But the comments on the picture prove that critics are incredibly unimpressed with Kardashian’s braids, and she has been slammed for cultural misappropriation.

“Quit tryina [sic] be black its [sic] really annoying. All of you!”, lesliecupid wrote.

“Stealing from black girls again….” heymantiteo wrote, later adding, “These are cornrows…..black women have had these for centuries…Man. I am so tired of white people stealing from other cultures.”

Another critic, jenniferhi_, simply wrote, “Not impressed Khloe.”

But Kardashian does have some fans in her corner, with more positive comments including “That’s pretty,” “Flawless!!”, and “I want my hair to look like this.”

Kardashian’s hair has also sparked a bit of debate as to whether she is wearing cornrows or something called boxing braids.

Commenter fionagalviss weighed in on the debate, writing, “@heymantiteo I’m sorry but when did wearing braids count as cultural appropriation? I understand that wearing cornrows and not respecting their history is offensive and insulting, but women of ALL cultures and nations have worn braids (the style Khloe is wearing is called a ‘boxing braid’), and since it’s International Women’s Day, shouldn’t all women respect each other?”
