Star Wars actress Daisy Ridley blasts body shamers (PHOTO)

Star Wars: The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley recently fell victim to body shamers who accused her of creating “unrealistic expectations” with her slim frame — and she has dealt with it in an inspiring way.

Ridley shared a screenshot on Instagram of another user’s meme of her Star Wars character Rey along with a speech bubble which read, “I can’t believe the unrealistic expectations I’m setting for young girls. Who cast me anyway? Don’t they know real women have curves?”

The actress was quick to remind the haters that “real women” do not come in a single shape and size.

She captioned the now deleted post with a thought-provoking message and a reminder to all that women do not fit into a perfect little box. She wrote, “‘Real women’ are all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, all levels of brave, have families, don’t have families. I am a ‘real woman’ like every other woman in this world.”

Ridley’s words serve as a powerful reminder that as women we should be encouraging body acceptance for all shapes and sizes. She followed up her initial post with a beautiful open letter explaining how she would never apologise for her body or the way that she looks.

“I will not apologise for how I look, what I say and how I live my life cause what’s happening inside is much more important anyway and I am striving to be the best version of myself, even if I stumble along the way,” she wrote. “It seems apt I get tagged in this a day after I received misogynistic comments on my [International Women’s Day] post.”

Ridley went on to tell her fans that they should “celebrate each other, celebrate the ones you love, love yourselves, work hard and [be] kind,” adding in the caption that she did not want the person who had initially posted the meme of her to be attacked.

“Guys it was not my intention for anyone to send messages to that poor person that posted the original picture. My whole post is about being kind to each other, so please refrain!” she wrote.
