Well, if you weren’t expecting that major bomb about Jace and Clary on Shadowhunters, I’m so sorry for the emotions and vomiting you’re probably experiencing. For those who haven’t read the books, I’m sure fans of the TV show did not anticipate that Clary and Jace are brother and sister. Yes, you read that correctly. Side note: Remember when Luke told Clary she had a brother? I guess he meant Jace.
Say what now? I haven’t read the books, but I knew this incest story line was coming and I’m still grossed out by it. That said, Valentine was the one who told them they are siblings, so maybe it isn’t even true. I certainly hope it isn’t, because if Jace and Clary really are blood-related, then that means Clace will never happen (or so I assume) and all those make-out scenes will forever give me nightmares.

Let me back up a bit to how they discovered they are supposedly related. Last Tuesday’s episode ended with Jace learning that his presumably dead father, Michael Wayland, is still alive. This Tuesday’s episode opened up with Michael telling his son and Clary that Valentine has kept him hostage for 10 years.
Then, Michael spouted off a bunch of other lies, because at the end of the episode, he revealed himself to be Valentine. As big bad Valentine told Jace and Clary, for years he’s been casting a powerful glamour as Michael Wayland, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t Jace’s father. Per Valentine, he truly is Jace’s father. I’m still unclear if Jocelyn is also Jace’s mother, or if Clary and him are supposedly half-siblings. At this point, who knows, but it doesn’t make it any less icky.
Valentine explained to his alleged children (BTW, I’m pretty confident in saying that he is most definitely Clary’s father) that they are so drawn together because “blood draws to blood.” Hmm… or maybe they just think each other is hot and are attracted to their other great qualities? Here’s hoping it’s the latter.

So, learning that Jace and Clary might really be brother and sister is super creepy, right? Most definitely, but what made the situation even more disturbing is the fact that at the end of the episode, Clace had the most normal conversation about Valentine and Clary finally getting her mother back.
Um, did they hear what Valentine just told them? Why are they acting so cool about all of this? If I were them, I would seriously be freaking out and probably throwing up after learning I just made out with my sibling and probably had thoughts about having sex with my brother and/or sister. But no, Jace and Clary were totally normal about it all. Let’s also hope they don’t act on their strong attraction after learning they could very well be brother and sister. I mean, that would just be another level of messed up that I couldn’t handle.
My takeaway from all of this? Firstly. if they really are related, then at least there’s still hope for Simon. Secondly, Valentine could totally be lying about all of this for some sick and twisted reason. Thirdly, Valentine is the villain of the series, so he will say and do anything to get his way, including lying about Clary and Jace’s sibling connection. Let’s hope No. 2 comes true; I’m choosing to believe No. 2 is definitely the case, otherwise I’ll have a difficult time watching new episodes.
Basically, this is me trying to cope with everything that just went down. Thanks, Shadowhunters.
