Bethenny Frankel introduces a new way to think about marriage

Bethenny Frankel just dropped the mic on everyone who thinks she’ll get married again.

We’re not supposed to change who we are for a man, and I guarantee I won’t be making that mistake again,” Frankel told People magazine in its latest issue, explaining why she’s embracing her independence amid the end of her marriage. “I don’t need to get married. I don’t need a man. I can support five men.”

Frankel is currently still stuck in divorce proceedings with her soon-to-be ex-husband Jason Hoppy, whom she married in 2009. They announced that they were ending their marriage in December of 2012.

Just weeks ago, a court made the decision to reduce the amount that Frankel is paying Hoppy in spousal support by around $12,000 a month, a decision she said she was pleased about. The court also reversed a prior decision that had given the couple joint ownership of their apartment in Tribeca, New York City.

“Everybody is out there looking for someone — they want the ring and to get married,” Frankel said. “My opinion is you need a man who can deal with you. If I can’t meet someone who can do that, then I’d rather be alone.”

She continued, addressing her current dating life as a single business owner in New York.

“A different caliber of man has been interested in me in the last couple of years,” Frankel explained. “It’s been someone really successful who is very smart who is excited to meet a woman who doesn’t need them to be their everything and doesn’t need them to support them.”
