Warning: if you’ve yet to watch Thursday’s episode of The Blacklist, read no further. Major spoilers are ahead.

So, I didn’t really expect for “Mr. Solomon: Conclusion” to end the way it did. There I was enjoying another action-packed episode that I couldn’t tear my eyes away from and then, bam, Liz dies. Wait, what? This is some kind of joke, right? Based on Red’s reaction of having Liz die in front of his eyes, it looked real and not like the kind of fake-out that Red usually pulls to protect his dear Lizzie.
After escaping the shootout at the church on what was supposed to be their wedding day, Tom and Liz got in a car accident, which expedited her pregnancy. Thankfully, they welcomed a healthy baby girl named Agnes. Sadly, Liz suffered some complications and on her way to the hospital, she ended up dying.
Obviously, every character was extremely upset and taken aback by the news of Liz’s death. How could this happen? If true, what does this mean going forward? Is there really a show without Megan Boone as Liz, seeing as she is the heart of the series?
1. Megan Boone is pregnant in real life
Wouldn’t this be the perfect way for her to go off on her maternity leave? Then, out of the blue, Liz could pop back up and shock everyone with the fact that she is actually still alive. It’d make for a great twist.
2. James Spader‘s reaction is open for interpretation
Spader spoke with Entertainment Weekly about Liz’s supposed death. After being asked if she is really dead, he said, “I think it’s most prudent not only as just myself and what I know or don’t know for that, but also in terms of the character of Reddington: Elizabeth Keen is dead.” Well, that doesn’t mean she is truly dead. It just seems like Spader is saying in terms of his character and how he’ll portray him moving forward is that Red believes Liz is dead. Am I the only one reading it that way?

3. Boone and/or the showrunner has yet to speak out
Usually, after a major character dies, the actor who portrays them speaks out about their exit. The same can also be said of the showrunner and their decision to kill off that character. Well, that has yet to happen in this case. So, until I hear Boone and/or Jon Bokenkamp say, “Yes, Liz is really dead,” then I refuse to believe it.
4. Her death wasn’t actually shown
Liz’s death wasn’t actually shown to viewers. Viewers saw her flatlining and then next thing they saw was Red looking at Liz’s lifeless body. Hmm… was that done on purpose?
5. Harry Lennix’s tweet is very cryptic
In response to a Twitter follower who asked for some “words of comfort,” Harry J. Lennix (who plays Harold Cooper) said, “Tammy – I’m at a loss of words:) U Gotta’ keep tuning in to future episodes to see what transpires – Goodnight:)” So what’s going to happen is that Liz is still alive, right?
6. NBC declined to comment
TVLine reports that NBC wouldn’t offer a comment regarding Boone’s status moving forward. However, Ryan Eggold (who plays Tom Keen) responded to Liz’s alleged death and said, “I was as shocked as I think the fans are! I have loved working with Megan, especially as we explored the complicated dynamic in Liz and Tom’s relationship. I’m incredibly curious to see how this deep cut affects Tom’s understanding of the world and what this means for the future of their daughter.” That doesn’t sound promising, but I remain unconvinced.
There are my many reasons for refusing to believe she is actually dead and gone. In all seriousness, if Boone doesn’t return as Liz, it will be disappointing. There is no The Blacklist without Lizzie.
