What we think Beyoncé’s confusing Lemonade trailer is actually about

Beyoncé is big on surprises and secrecy, but her latest project — a collaboration with HBO called Lemonade — may be the biggest mystery yet.

Bey and HBO shared an extended trailer of the project on Sunday night, but it’s unlikely it will hold any of the answers you’re looking for. Instead, you’ll probably have even more questions than before, because, seriously, what the heck is this?

Dubbed as the trailer for the “world premiere event,” it includes a dark, dodgy-looking car park, thunderstorms and a strange dungeon.

Here are our theories as to what exactly this new project could be.

1. It could be a TV series

Beyoncé has tried her hand at acting, and this is a thriller TV series (it gives me goose bumps just watching the trailer). Also, there are some seriously strange things in the trailer that suggest anarchy: Bey is walking the streets with a baseball bat, and she’s smashing surveillance cameras. The whole thing feels like it could be a scene from The Purge.

2. Or maybe a horror flick

Perhaps it’s not a TV series at all but rather a horror film about ghosts. Seriously, what’s up with all the candles, Victorian dresses and dark dungeons? Spooky!

3. A new music video

This would make a lot of sense as fans have been eagerly awaiting Beyoncé’s new album, and her Formation World Tour is set to kick off pretty soon (April 27 in Miami, Florida).

4. A very artistic biopic

We also think this could possibly be a movie about her life as the trailer includes lines like, “The past and the present merge to meet us here.” Plus, she also says, “You’re the love of my life,” and the trailer does feature an image of little girl — could it be about Blue Ivy?

OK, a lot of the scenes don’t make too much sense here to be a biopic, but it could be a very artistic, abstract version of Bey’s life. No?

The good news? We’ll be able to stop guessing and actually find out this Saturday, April 23.
