Cheryl Burke has reason to be sorry after reckless comments about Ian Ziering

Cheryl Burke is #sorrynotsorry.

After making some extremely harsh comments in an interview about her “least favorite” Dancing With the Stars partner, Ian Ziering, she publicly apologized — but not to Ziering.

“I’ve always lived by the rule that if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all,” she tweeted after saying that working with Ziering made her “want to slit my wrists.”

“Recently and regrettably, I broke that rule. In the heat of an interview conversation, I used a phrase that seemingly makes light of suicide, and I deeply regret it. I have many friends and family members that struggle with depression and thoughts of suicide. To have said something that seemingly makes a mockery of what they’ve gone through and what they live with is something that I apologize for. I never meant to hurt anyone or to trivialize the topic. I was out of line, and for that, I apologize.”

Burke and Ziering appeared on Season 4 of DWTS and made it all the way to the semifinals. On Matt Weiss and Theo Von’s Allegedly podcast, she shared her feelings about working with Ziering, who the hosts said was awkward and intense when he appeared on Celebrity Apprentice.

“That’s the true colors that they didn’t show on Dancing With the Stars.… Think of spending time with that for, like, eight to 10 hours a day, seven days a week, for three months,” Burke said. “It made me want to slit my wrists. I was, like, crying to the executives. I was like, ‘Is there any way to please just eliminate us?’ They’re like, ‘We can’t. We can’t do that.’ And I swear, every time I asked, we just kept going. We would last till the end.”

Burke deserves the backlash she received — her comments were extremely dramatic, and those who said she trivialized suicide were absolutely right. But her apology didn’t even address Ziering, and if she’s going to bash him so shamelessly, she should probably apologize to him, too.
