Princess Charlotte turns 1, celebrates with a very special photo shoot

She’s only been seen in public twice — on the day she was born and at her christening — so fans of the royal family go mad for any pictures of Princess Charlotte, and they’re in for a treat today.

Charlotte turns 1 on May 2. To mark the occasion, her parents, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, have released four gorgeous photographs of the little princess.

Like the images released in November showing Charlotte, then 6 months old, at the family’s Norfolk home Amner Hall, the new photos of the youngest royal were taken by Kate Middleton, who is a keen photographer.

Although she has darker hair, the pictures show how much of a resemblance there is between Charlotte and her big brother, 2-year-old Prince George.

William and Kate released the images on Sunday morning on the Kensington Palace Twitter account, saying in a series of tweets, “The Duke and Duchess are delighted to share new photographs of Princess Charlotte. The Duchess took these pictures of her daughter in April at their home in Norfolk. The Duke and Duchess are happy to be able to share these family moments, ahead of their daughter’s first birthday. We hope that everyone enjoys these lovely photos as much as we do.”

Although Charlotte has appeared in a handful of official royal pictures — including her first Christmas, a family ski trip and, most recently, a group photo with the queen and her other great-grandchildren and youngest grandchildren to mark the monarch’s 90th birthday — it’s lovely to see her in less formal shots. With her mum behind the camera, it’s no wonder Charlotte looks so happy and relaxed.
