Game of Thrones [SPOILER]’s return was epic but also seemed too easy

Game of Thrones fans can actually get a good night’s sleep tonight after questions over Jon Snow’s fate since the end of Season 5 last year have finally been answered.

WARNING: Spoilers ahead! Do not continue reading unless you want to know all the epic dirt on Game of Thrones Season 5 Episode 2.

So Jon Snow is back from the dead, thanks to Melisandre finally doing some good with her blood magic.

Let’s all do a happy dance and then take a step back to question whether his resurrection really went down like we saw. Was it really Melisandre’s doing?

I’m not so convinced. Even she wasn’t convinced at the end of her spell.

Remember, we never actually saw Thoros of Myr bring Beric Dondarrion back in seasons past. We saw him bend over Dondarrion’s lifeless body, but that’s it. So really, Melisandre’s witchy spell is unprecedented in the Game of Thrones world. Meaning, we can’t take the spell at face value. Maybe it didn’t actually work. Maybe her faith has been shattered and the real hero in all of this was someone or something else.

Think about it, Ghost has stayed by Jon Snow’s side like glue since his death. And during Melisandre’s spell, the show kept panning to cuts of Ghost lying nearby. Could he have been connected to Jon’s return somehow?

Jon’s return just seemed too easy. But things on Game of Thrones are rarely what they seem.

Melisandre, despite her lack of confidence, cuts some of Jon’s hair, waves her hands and he just starts breathing again? No way.

What if it’s much more complicated than that.

Now, I could be just trying to create depth in the moment where there wasn’t any beyond the obvious. Maybe Jon’s resurrection was simply Melisandre discovering her connection to her Lord of Light once again.

Or maybe it wasn’t a coincidence that Bran returned to the show during the same episode that Jon rose from the dead, with Ghost there sensing the whole thing.
