We’re getting sick of reboots, but the Lizzie McGuire news is fantastic

Hasn’t ’90s-early-2000s nostalgia peaked by now? Freeform, formerly ABC Family, and I have entirely different views on the subject. The network is throwing themselves behind the nostalgia concept with a new block of programming designated to reuniting millennials with their favorite shows of yore. It’s called “That’s So Throwback,” which, I’ll admit, is the perfect name.

According to E!, Freeform will be running old-school Disney channel favorites like That’s So Raven, Kim Possible, Hannah Montana and Lizzie McGuire on Mondays through Thursdays from 12 a.m. to 2 a.m.

On Fridays, even deeper cuts will send you and your friends screaming down memory lane because — wait for it — they’re playing original movies. The first month’s lineup is Twitches, Get a Clue, Stuck in the Suburbs and Smart House. Remember when Lindsay Lohan was a young journalist and Taran Killam was a teen pop star? Maybe those were the glory days after all.

It’s a little annoying that there seems to be more emphasis on rebooting old shows and rerunning fads from the past. Some of these shows have outdated jokes that would neverget past a writers room now — think digs on body type, sexuality and gender. Sometimes it’s just nice to see a character who was crafted for and lives in the year 2016.

Of course, I’ll concede that I still get excited when it’s a show I’m down to watch over and over again. Pretty Little Liars followed by Lizzie McGuire sounds like a pretty ideal night to me. Lizzie and Gordo, welcome to my very 2016 living room.
