Kristen Doute, who is not engaged and who has been dating her boyfriend, Brian Carter, less than a year, is currently wearing a wedding ring “for practice.” That’s right; in the way that toddlers play dress up to pretend they’re fairy princesses, Doute is pretending she’s engaged by wearing a fake wedding ring. Did I mention she is the one who bought the wedding ring?

“It looks good. I just wanted to see — what if I don’t like this cut?” she asked as a way to justify her ludicrous stunt.
Although I can’t prove it, I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this practice run has absolutely nothing to do with deciding what kind of cut she likes in a diamond and everything to do with Doute trying to draw attention to herself. And probably also a little bit of her not-so-subtly pressuring Carter to propose to her ASAP. Even though I know better than to get emotionally invested in reality show stars, the whole thing makes my eyes roll all the way back into my head.

The thing that drives me crazy about Doute isn’t that she’s constantly doing things to make people talk about her (let’s face it, all reality stars are guilty of that), but it’s that she does it while claiming she’s completely normal and is getting her life together. Pretending you’re engaged for a girls’ night out is one thing. Pretending you’re engaged in daily life all the time is just plain ridiculous.
It diminishes the value and importance of her actual engagement, as well as makes her a liar every single day. Where are any of her friends to tell her this is wrong? Any of the Vanderpump Rules cast members could jump in and tell her this isn’t something she should be doing as a grown woman.

We’ll have to see whether or not the fake engagement ring makes it into the new season of Rules or if she wises up before appearing on national television. Let’s hope it’s the latter!
