Sorry but no, Val Chmerkovskiy cannot be Michael Strahan’s Live! replacement

Someone is already gunning for Michael Strahan‘s job.

On Monday’s episode of Dancing with the Stars, Good Morning America meteorologist Ginger Zee took some time to address all the morning talk-show controversy that’s been going on lately surrounding Strahan’s exit from Live! to take on a full-time hosting gig at Good Morning America.

I love having him,” she said. “We’ve had him obviously for a couple of years, a couple days a week. I love Michael Strahan and he’s going to be a great addition and he’s wonderful!”

But then there’s the issue of who will replace Strahan alongside Kelly Ripa on Live! Zee’s dance partner, Val Chmerkovskiy, has a solution for that.

“Look, I’m in,” he told E! News during the show. “Michael is going to come on Dancing with the Stars, and I could go and help out with Kelly. There you go, problem solved!”

Cue the outrage.

It’s not that Chmerkovskiy is a terrible choice for the job, necessarily. There are just so many better candidates.

Chmerkovskiy definitely has a loyal following of fans and plenty of recognition. But we’re not sure he has the personality to be a host on a show like Live! Chmerkovskiy can come off as a little bit arrogant to some, and especially when he’s following in the footsteps of a natural host like Strahan, we can’t help but wonder if those shoes are a little too big for Chmerkovskiy to fill — or, at least, fill as well as another celeb could.
