Well, it’s a sad day in the world of TV. What fans have suspected for some time now unfortunately happened. On Thursday, ABC officially canceled Agent Carter. Even though I pretty much prepared myself for the horrible news, I was still holding on to a little bit of hope that the network would do the right thing and keep the Marvel series and the amazing cast around. Alas, it did not happen.

Seeing as Agent Carter has served its last and final mission on ABC, now begins my rant and frustration over the loss of not just another great series, but the loss of one of the greatest characters to have ever appeared on the small screen. You heard me, Peggy Carter (beautifully and magnificently portrayed by the extremely talented Hayley Atwell) was one of the most badass, feminist, crimefighting leading ladies of television who has unforgivably been taken away from fans.
Atwell, Peggy and Agent Carter deserved more than two seasons of storytelling. It was never not delightful to watch, not to mention beyond entertaining. Most importantly, it was well written and unapologetically feminist. As I write those words, I become even more frustrated than I already am. There really is no other show like Agent Carter on TV today. What does ABC expect me to do without it in my life?

Thankfully, Atwell will appear on ABC again come the 2016-2017 television season in her newest series, Conviction, but it still won’t be the same as watching her on Agent Carter. Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled for her next TV adventure and will absolutely tune in. It’s just a hard pill to swallow because I so wanted more of Atwell as Peggy Carter.
Not to mention, how does ABC expect me to sleep at night with this cancellation news? I still don’t know what’s to come of Peggy and Daniel’s romantic future. I still don’t know if Jack is alive or not. I still haven’t seen all there is between Ana and Jarvis. Really, this is all just cruel. I mean, the Season 2 finale may have been the last time I will ever see Peggy kick ass. Oh, it’s so wrong.
It’s probably a far-fetched dream to hope that Netflix would give Agent Carter a second life. Hello, how many other original Marvel series do they currently house? Let’s add Agent Carter to the list. Yes, it’s a long shot, especially now that Atwell has a new gig, but hey, a girl can dream. Guess what? Peggy most definitely wouldn’t want me to give up on my dreams.
With that, let’s honor one of the greatest TV badasses of all time by recognizing our value and never letting anyone tell us what we can or cannot do. Peggy, fans know your value and will never forget it.
