What drama? Kelly Ripa & Michael Strahan were adorable on his last day

Live! producers were so eager to get Michael Strahan off the show that they didn’t even let him finish his good-byes before heading to commercial.

Kelly Ripa plastered on a smile and made nice on Strahan’s last show, giving her co-host some fabulous parting gifts, including a framed photo of the pair, a photo album and a pair of bronzed high heels he wore on a Halloween episode.

“We couldn’t be prouder of you,” she said. “You have given us so much joy in the morning, from your smile to your sense of humor to your horrible French accent. We really are so, so proud of you. We’ve achieved so much together, and I look forward to watching you every morning and seeing what else you achieve.”

Very nice — but when Strahan tried to say his own good-byes, he was unceremoniously cut off like a Best Documentary winner at the Oscars.

“I just want to say, this is very bittersweet to me, and I just want to say thank you to everybody,” he began. “And it’s been so overwhelming with the response that we’ve had over the past four years, and I have loved this show. And it means the world that you give us an hour of your day, and what you don’t realize is, we get more from that hour than you, really.”

Strahan continued, “And we sit in front of a live audience who is always, I say during our commercial breaks, are the third co-host of the show. The energy that they bring really makes this show work. And we have an amazing staff here from the producers to the staff to the crew that make sure…” And cue the music playing him off.

Ouch. At least Strahan was able to continue after the cameras were off, in front of the studio audience, and Ripa made sure to give him a bear hug for good measure.

What do you think Ripa is saying to him that their mics didn’t pick up? Perhaps she said, “I don’t care what Gelman said. If you ever set foot on this set again, I will cut you.”
