Caught on her way to a flight by TMZ, Michelle Rodriguez gives a surprise and surprisingly great interview about the state of the wage gap in Hollywood. After taking a moment to realize what the cameraman is asking (“Weight gap?”) she gets on board with chatting about her feelings — all while checking in for her upcoming flight.

“It’s a patriarchal society,” she says. “It’s like being born a slave. You know it’s like, ‘Oh damn. Darn my luck. I wish I was born somewhere else or maybe some other way,'” she continued. “But it is what it is.”
She did agree that the gap exists. “I get paid a lot less than my colleagues.”

Rodriguez has been open about sexism in Hollywood in the past. In an interview with NJ.com last March, she said she has to work to steer clear of the female character archetypes that are so often being offered to her because of her gender. “I’m really picky about the parts I choose,” she said. “I can’t be the slut. I cannot be just the girlfriend. I can’t be the girl who gets empowered because she’s been raped. I can’t be the girl who gets empowered and then dies.”
