Johnny Depp’s divorce statement suggests his split was anything but civil

Johnny Depp is breaking his silence about his spilt from Amber Heard just a day after the 30-year-old actress filed for divorce from the 52-year-old actor.

The actor’s rep released a statement on Thursday, saying, “Given the brevity of this marriage and the most recent and tragic loss of his mother, Johnny will not respond to any of the salacious false stories, gossip, misinformation and lies about his personal life. Hopefully the dissolution of this short marriage will be resolved quickly.”

Just one day after Depp released this statement, news broke that Heard had filed a request for a restraining order against Depp, claiming domestic abuse. She even included a picture of herself with a bruised eye as evidence, along with a harrowing tale of Depp attacking her just days before she filed for divorce.

Depp and Heard were married for only a little over a year. The rumors and “false stories” Depp’s rep refers to were initially assumed to be the fact that they had a turbulent marriage. Now, with reports of domestic violence, that seems to be an understatement.

Depp asked the judge to reject Heard’s claim for spousal support, and rumors also swirled that Heard had her doubts about marrying Depp in the first place. But Depp didn’t sign a prenuptial agreement, meaning millions of dollars are now up for discussing.

Depp’s family was also reportedly not a fan of the marriage at all, according to TMZ. The outlet reported that Depp’s two teenage children, John Christopher Depp III and Lily-Rose Melody Depp, hate Heard. Plus, Depp’s mother believed Heard was just using Depp for his money and fame.

“Before Amber met Johnny, she was just a regular super cool hipster chick living with roommates who dated girls,” a source told People. “At their engagement party she kind of got cold feet… she was just like what is this scene and what am I doing here? She kind of couldn’t believe it was her life now.”

However, other sources claim the pair had a loving, positive relationship.
