Amber Heard’s lawyer tries to set the record straight about those blackmail rumors

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp’s divorce is getting uglier with each passing day. With rumors of abuse and blackmail flying back and forth, it’s hard to know what exactly is true. In order to keep things manageable, however, Heard’s lawyer has spoken out about what people should believe and what they shouldn’t.

Heard’s attorney, Peter Sample, told The Wrap that the “allegations against Ms. Heard are absolutely and unequivocally false.” Additionally, the claim that she is blackmailing Depp “has no basis in reality and is nothing but the typical celebrity muckraking for profit.”

Obviously, with Sample being Heard’s lawyer, he does have a very strong bias. But the passion with which he denied these rumors does make him sound like he’s telling the truth.

In case you missed the original blackmailing claim, comedian Doug Stanhope, a friend of Depp’s, wrote an essay for The Wrap claiming that Heard was blackmailing the actor during this divorce. In a very long post, Stanhope wrote, “Amber was now going to leave him, threatening to lie about him publicly in any and every possible duplicitous way if he didn’t agree to her terms. Blackmail is what I would imagine other people might put it, including the manner in which he is now being vilified.”

The whole divorce is becoming a case of he-said, she-said. Especially after Heard was granted a domestic violence restraining order against Depp when she allegedly appeared in court with visible bruises. The entire thing has devolved into a messy situation in a matter of days. Whether some or all of it is true, it’s a case of very bad behavior that deserves very real attention and consequences.

Depp has yet to comment on any of it. And according to his rep, it’s going to stay that way. The actor does not intend to comment on any of his personal life, but he hopes that the dissolution of his brief marriage is resolved quickly.
