Bobby Brown is blaming more than just Nick Gordon in Bobbi Kristina’s death

Bobby Brown is shifting the way he thinks about his daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown‘s death.

Since Bobbi Kristina died nearly a year ago, Brown has been vocal about placing much of the blame for her passing on her boyfriend, Nick Gordon. But now, Brown is accepting some of the blame for himself and Whitney Houston.

“We could have been better. We should have been better,” Brown said in a new interview set to air on 20/20 Tuesday.

“It’s not a mystery to me. The same thing that happened to my daughter is what happened to Whitney,” Brown continued.

Bobbi Kristina died last June, several months after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub in her Georgia home. She was 22 when she died. A medical examiner in Fulton County ruled that her death was caused by a combination of drowning and drug overdose — Bobbi Kristina had marijuana, alcohol, a “cocaine-related substance,” sedatives, anti-anxiety medication and morphine in her system at the time she was found.

But even though Brown is accepting some of the blame for his daughter’s fate, he still thinks Gordon was ultimately responsible for Bobbi Kristina’s condition when she was found in January 2015.

“He knows what happened,” Brown said of Gordon. “I don’t know what happened that night. But he does.”

Gordon lived with Bobbi Kristina at the time she was found. He has denied having anything to do with her death, and although Bobbi Kristina’s family has filed a $50 million wrongful death lawsuit against him, authorities have not charged him with any crime related to the events that surrounded Bobbi Kristina’s passing.

“Regardless of what everybody thinks, I made Krissy and Whitney’s last few years on earth as happy as they would be,” Gordon said during an interview with Dr. Phil in April. “I gave them somebody to trust to, to talk to, to be there, someone genuine.”
