Can we give Chrissy Teigen and John Legend an award for best tweets?

There are few things in life I like more than Chrissy Teigen going after someone on Twitter. She finds the perfect balance of sass and humor to take down the constant stream of trolls she encounters, and I, for one, think it’s one of the most entertaining things on Twitter. What I didn’t know is that when Teigen joined forces with her husband, John Legend, to put someone in their place on Twitter, it would actually be the most entertaining thing on the website.

The target of the duo’s sass and side-eye today was Piers Morgan, the television host who is famous for his racist and offensive comments, and who tweeted about the way everyone was talking about Muhammad Ali since his passing. Morgan said, “I hope people don’t make me sound too perfect when I die. No coats of sugar please.”

That’s when Legend jumped in and told Morgan that he “could test us by announcing [his] retirement.” To prove that she’ll stand by her man (especially when he’s right), Teigen said that he couldn’t announce a retirement because “trolling isn’t a job.”

Can we take a moment to appreciate just how perfect this couple is? Not only do they stand up against bullies for causes they believe in, they also support each other and fight for causes together.

Although Legend stopped his interaction with Morgan after the initial response, Teigen kept the conversation going until it escalated to her calling him an “unequivocal douche.” Clearly, she doesn’t want to be misunderstood.

I guess we shouldn’t commend people for name-calling online, but I think it’s OK to make an exception here — especially when Morgan makes a habit of posting ignorant commentary on his Twitter. But what I do find particularly endearing is how Legend didn’t feel the need to jump in and defend Teigen. He knew she could handle herself and express her opinions on her own. He said what he wanted to, the way he wanted to, and then got out of the way so that she could do the same.

It shows how supportive and balanced their relationship is. They are definitely the new king and queen of #relationshipgoals.
