Amber Heard’s ex-girlfriend has a lot to say about their domestic violence incident

Amber Heard‘s entire life has come under the microscope since she filed for a restraining order against Johnny Depp, claiming that he physically abused her. And now every detail of her past is being drudged up, including her previous domestic violence incident with ex-girlfriend, Tasya van Ree.

More: Amber Heard’s past should have no bearing on her case against Johnny Depp

According to TMZ, the incident happened in 2009 after Heard and van Ree got into a heated argument at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, which resulted in Heard being booked for misdemeanor violence after she allegedly grabbed and struck van Ree’s arm.

Heard reportedly appeared in court the following day and, according to the site, they have obtained audio of the court hearing, in which the prosecutor declined to move forward with the case, reportedly because both women lived in California.

But van Ree is now speaking out about the incident, which she claims had been sensationalized. In a statement to Us Weekly she said, “In 2009, Amber was wrongfully accused for an incident that was misinterpreted and over-sensationalized by two individuals in a power position. I recount hints of misogynistic attitudes toward us which later appeared to be homophobic when they found out we were domestic partners and not just ‘friends.’ Charges were quickly dropped and she was released moments later.”

Van Ree continued, “It’s disheartening that Amber’s integrity and story are being questioned yet again. Amber is a brilliant, honest and beautiful woman and I have the utmost respect for her. We shared 5 wonderful years together and remain close to this day.”
