DWTS without Mark Ballas would be like a win without the mirrorball trophy

We’ve come to really love watching Mark Ballas on Dancing with the Stars, and our dreams will be dashed if he’s not there for Season 23 — and unfortunately, that could be a very real outcome.

Ballas gave an update on his back injury (which he sustained last season) during an interview with People magazine, saying he was not sure yet if he would be out of the running for the mirrorball trophy next season.

“This one just finished and my back still hurts,” he admitted, adding, “Thinking that far ahead is kind of… you know, it’s hard.”

While it seems unsure if he’ll return, he did reveal the celeb he would most like to see on the show, and it wasn’t someone we expected.

“I don’t know. They do a great job of picking people that are entertaining and fun,” Ballas told the publication. “If I could have anyone it would be Shakira. She’s, like, my No. 1 choice. I think she would be amazing.”

We agree, we’ve already witnessed Shakira’s incredible moves and we think she’d make a great addition to the show. And who better to partner up with her than Ballas?

Either way, we hope to see Ballas on DWTS. The show wouldn’t be the same without him.

Update June 13: This article originally stated Ballas was currently injured. This is not correct and has been updated to reflect that.
