Drumroll please… The Real Housewives franchise is coming to our own backyard: please welcome The Real Housewives of Toronto!

Corus Entertainment, who recently purchased Shaw Media, has revealed that The Real Housewives of Toronto will be part of its 2017 programming lineup. As expected, the show will give us a glimpse into the lives of some of the wealthiest and most glamorous women in Canada. According to Corus Entertainment’s statement, The Real Housewives of Toronto will offer franchise fans “an intimate look at the luxurious lives of the city’s wealthiest women, from their extravagant day-to-day escapades in Toronto to grandiose getaways at their exclusive colossal cottages in Muskoka — Canada’s playground for the rich and famous.”
Those who are devoted fans of the series will know that this isn’t the first Canadian Real Housewives, but the previous Vancouver-based showwas short-lived. According to Reality Tea, in 2013 the senior vice president of content for Shaw Media, Barbara Williams, confirmed that the show would not be renewed for a third season. She said, “After two successful seasons of The Real Housewives of Vancouver, Shaw Media will be putting production of a third season on hold while we sample new programming on Slice.”
Let’s hope that RHOT takes note of RHOV’s shortcomings and ensures that the cast of Toronto is interesting enough to make it to (and well past) a third season.

Little information has been revealed about the cast, but according to Global News the series is currently under production, and there is plenty speculation about who will fill the six spots. The Star has named their top picks for the upcoming series, which includes, among others, hostess Mary Symons, Vanessa Mulroney (the wife of National Bank’s head of equity markets, Mark Mulroney), Mary Jo Eustace, Ayahna Cornish-Lowry, the wife of the Raptor’s Kyle Lowry, and publicist Natasha Koifman.
But the rumors have been building for quite some time. Back in 2011, City News revealed that there was chatter about the franchise headed to Toronto and it mentioned that several women were approached to join the show, including fashion enthusiast Stacey Kimel and designer Kimberley Newport-Mimran, who both reportedly turned down the opportunity. But who knows, maybe they’ve changed their minds five years later?
