RHOC is back, and unfortunately, so is Brooks Ayers, the alleged cancer-faking guy we all love to hate. Or, at least, he’s here in spirit.
Ayers (or Crooks, as he is affectionately known on Twitter) seems to have wormed his way back into Vicki Gunvalson’s affections, despite having moved out after last season’s cancer drama. Gunvalson swore up and down that she could make it on her own without this ne’er-do-well in her life, but the rest of the cast (and viewers) knew better.
It didn’t take long for Gunvalson to start waxing nostalgic about her boy toy. In one of her first confessionals of the season, she referred to Ayers as her “best friend,” adding that she begged him not to go the night he moved out. Hmm… that doesn’t sound much like the independent woman Gunvalson claimed to be during last year’s reunion.

Gunvalson has admitted on multiple occasions that she finds it very difficult to live by herself. This is actually a problem to which many viewers can relate, even if they don’t want to admit it.

In their fear of living alone, many women sacrifice any semblance of a healthy relationship. This is certainly true for Gunvalson; it doesn’t take a genius to recognize that her relationship with Ayers was toxic, as were the romances that came before.
Thankfully, despite how lovey-dovey Gunvalson acted during tonight’s premiere, she really does seem eager to move on. However, while she mentioned the idea of “[whooping] it up with the girls,” her real intention was to snag a guy as quickly as possible, as she doesn’t particularly like the idea of dinner for one. She appears to have succeeded, and while fans have their doubts about her new beau, Steve Lodge, her daughter Briana Culberson has already given the romance her blessing.

It’s easy to argue that anybody is better than Ayers, but I’m not so sure. I think it would be in Gunvalson’s best interest to take some time to herself and think about what she truly wants in a relationship. I don’t think jumping into another relationship is a smart idea, but I can empathize with the loneliness causing her to make this inadvisable step in her complicated love life.
