Selma Blair issued an official apology for her airplane outburst earlier this week. The actress, who was still in the hospital yesterday, took no extra time to get ahead of the gossip and let everyone know exactly what happened.
The actress’ statement read, “I made a big mistake yesterday. After a lovely trip with my son and his dad, I mixed alcohol with medication, and that caused me to black out and led me to say and do things that I deeply regret.”

She continued to explain what happened, saying, “My son was with his dad asleep with his headphones on, so there is that saving grace. I take this very seriously, and I apologize to all of the passengers and crew that I disturbed and am thankful to all of the people who helped me in the aftermath. I am a flawed human being who makes mistakes and am filled with shame over this incident. I am truly very sorry.”

As far as celebrity apologies go, this one is pretty much perfect. She takes accountability for what she did, she didn’t try to cover up what she did and she made sure to stick to the apology, not an excuse. The entire apology makes her more admirable while also takes the air out of the surrounding controversy.
Usually, celebrities will try to blame exhaustion or the media for making a bigger deal than what actually happened, but Blair didn’t do anything like that. She gave the public credit for being smart enough to know something major was going on without fueling more speculation.

She hasn’t yet made any mention of whether or not she will seek any kind of help, or that she has a problem in the first place, but it seems as if the embarrassment she is feeling from the entire event is enough to prevent her from doing anything like this again.
