Does the cast of Big Brother 18 include an ignorant bigot?

The cast ofBig Brother 18 was recently announced, and while it includes people from pretty much all walks of life and backgrounds (including a high school teacher, dog groomer and a clothing designer), the most shocking thing is that it may also include a bigot.

At least, that’s the way Corey Brooks’ tweets have made him appear. Brooks, a baseball coach, has been raising eyebrows after his tweets from 2011 and 2012 were uncovered by BuddyTV, and his reference to “fags” and using “gay” as a slur are bound to make him very unpopular.

The publication has obtained a series of tweets made between July 2011 and September 2012 that paint Brooks in a very unflattering light. One tweet reads, “You would know about taking it the hard way. Fag.”

Another reads, “took me a while to figure out who you were but your gay write up about yourself gave it away. Body building is your life? #yourefat.”

And, “The Notebook is the greatest movie of all time… I don’t care if you think I’m a faggot.”

While BuddyTV notes that the tweets appear to be more in jest than malicious, and that Brooks was only 20 at the time, does this give him an excuse to make homophobic slurs? Should these tweets be excused because they’re in the past, or would excusing the hate only make it seem OK for others to do the same?

According to the Inquisitr, on June 16, the homophobic tweets on Brooks’ page were suddenly deleted, but obviously not before people caught wind of them.

Brooks describes himself in three words as “extraordinary, passionate and loveable,” but his tweets may make it hard for the public to love him back. But do feel free to read them, and judge Brooks’ behavior for yourself.
