Rihanna is definitely going through something tough but keeping it under wraps

Rihanna had a complete emotional breakdown during a live show. What is going on with the singer?

After starting a concert in Dublin, Ireland on her Anti World Tour a half hour late, Rihanna promptly lost her composure as the first strains of “Love the Way You Lie” began to play. Her audience, quickly picking up on her emotional state, took over the job for her, singing along loudly.

Why so emotional? Well, the song itself is a touchy subject for the star. It alternates between Eminem rapping about being a domestic abuser and beating the crap out of his girlfriend (for the purposes of the song, that’s Rihanna) and Rihanna making excuses for him. Pretty heavy stuff, especially considering her own domestic violence background with Chris Brown.

So, did her memories of what happened during her relationship with Brown just happen to overwhelm her at that exact moment? Twitter has some theories.

Regardless of the reason, RiRi was super grateful for the help. “I only have ever in my life heard an audience of people scream so loud that they sound like one voice and that only happens in Ireland, in Dublin,” she told the audience. “Thank you so much.”

Rihanna only made the briefest of mentions about the incident on social media.

“What a night!!!! Such an emotional show for me!” she wrote. “I feel so lucky to have a team like the #Navy man! I’m blessed!! No matter what I’m on you always snatch me out of it! I’m so grateful to have y’all!”
