You’ve probably heard by now that the upcoming all-female version of Ghostbusters has been met with mixed emotions. While many are super pumped to watch Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones bust the hell out of some ghosts, some people are taking the stance that the remake will destroy their childhood memories.
Now, Fall Out Boy and Missy Elliott have officially released their remake of Ray Parker Jr.’s original Ghostbusters theme and, unlike it’s movie counterpart, the first release off the new soundtrack is not polarizing the general population. In fact, the consensus seems to be almost unanimous: The Fall Out Boy version ain’t so great.

The song isn’t that horrible, but, let’s face it, it seems longer than every other song Fall Out Boy has ever written and performed, and we can kind of see why everyone is considering it a desecration of the nostalgic original. We’re also kind of wondering why they didn’t keep with the all-female theme and just have Elliott record the track.

Whether you love or hate their take on the classic, Fall Out Boy are far from the first to tackle covering the theme song. Here are some others.
1. Hoobastank
Hoobastank’s fun version of the song is giving us simultaneous nostalgia for both 2005 and 1984. Where did they find those amazing proton packs?
2. Kasabian
Who knew that listening to a song about busting ghosts could be so mellow?
3. Bobby Brown
OK, so it’s not really a cover of the original, but we’d be remiss not to bring up Brown’s song off the soundtrack for 1989’s Ghostbuster’s 2.

4. This Wild Life
It’s weird to say that a two guitar acoustic version is our favorite cover? These guys have some serious skills!
5. Conor Oberst
It’s clear Oberst and his band know how to have fun on stage. This Halloween 2008 performance is pretty sweet.
6. This metal version
This metal cover of “Ghostbusters” by Leo Moracchioli of Frog Leap Studios takes scary to a whole new level. Not to mention he’s scary talented — dude can rock all of those instruments!
7. YouTube star Luke Conard
Forget about the cover, we’re all about that Scooby-Doo onesie.
8. Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig
We could listen to these two scat the instrumentals all day long.
And just for old times sake, here’s the Ray Parker Jr.’s classic version!
