One of the things I’ve always admired about Teresa Giudice is her ability to power through problems. For better or for worse, Giudice is a woman who doesn’t let her emotions get the better of her for long. Never has her talent been more useful than the past year. Between her prison sentence and now her husband Joe’s stay, she’s had to spend a lot of time with her daughters in the prison visiting room lately, something no mother wants to say.

Teresa, along with her four daughters Gia, 15, Gabriella, 11, Milania, 10, and Audriana, 6, are all settling into a routine that includes after-school activities and trips to visit Joe. But, she says, “I can’t wait for Joe to get home. He needs to help me.”
Unfortunately, even that is still unclear. Joe was born in Italy and despite living in the United States for many years and marrying Teresa, he never became a citizen. This means that the courts could decide to deport him after his prison sentence if they see a reason to.

Despite a potentially terrible future, Teresa remains optimistic that their family will get back to their happy life together soon. She said, “We all miss Joe tremendously. But I try to remind them, ‘Now that Mommy is home, didn’t it go by fast? That’s how it’s going to be for Daddy, too.'”
I applaud Teresa for her optimism; I just hope that it isn’t actually her avoiding reality. There is a very big chance that her daughters are heartbroken and confused and will need some answers at some point throughout Joe’s stay and return. I can’t imagine that they’ll get out of this experience without having some residual feelings.

But Teresa has always been a loving and attentive mom, so hopefully she’ll know just how to support her daughters when they struggle with what’s going on and optimism just won’t work.
