Orange Is the New Black star Danielle Brooks just revealed how she is constantly the victim of casual racism couched in a smile.
Brooks, who plays fan fave Tasha “Taystee” Jefferson on the hit show, just revealed how airline gate agents insult her on the regular under the guise of making cute conversation — and it’s pretty shocking, when you think about it.

Now, I am an average white woman with a net worth probably far below that of a successful actress on a TV show, and I have never once received such a comment from an airline employee while flying first class, even when my ticket was a matter of luck due to frequent flyer upgrades. So what’s the diff? Brooks is not an average white woman. And Twitter picked up on what Brooks was throwing down immediately.

The Tony-nominated actress was flying to Los Angeles for an appearance on the late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live today. In addition to her role on Orange Is the New Black, she is also playing Sofia in The Color Purple on Broadway.
Season 4 of Orange Is the New Black premiered June 17.
