Fans were shocked when Amy and Matt Roloff announced their decision to divorce in 2015 after 27 years of marriage. But ending her relationship isn’t the only interesting decision Amy has made recently.

During Tuesday’s Little People, Big World episode, Amy can be seen telling her son Zach that she’s thinking about getting a tattoo.
“You know, when I was 50, I always thought about doing this,” Amy tells Zach in the clip. “I’m thinking about getting a tattoo…”
Of course, Zach is a little shocked to hear that at 51 years old his mother wants to get her first tattoo, and so he doesn’t respond right away. But Amy seems genuinely excited, telling the camera, “I think one of the reasons I wanted to tell Zach is because Zach is very vocal, very verbal, and I knew that he would give me his immediate reaction.”
“You’re actually doing it?” Zach later asks him mom, to which Amy replies, “I think so” — and yes, she did it.

Getting a tattoo is not a life-altering decision, and Amy is definitely old enough to decide if she wants to modify her body, but the decision was surprising for her children, who have been through a pretty difficult time over the last year as they deal with their parents split and the decisions that they have decided to make following it (the divorce was official in May of 2016).
“Just do what you gotta do mom,” Zach tells the camera, adding, “both my parents are in their own little world lately and they’re both doing some funky things. So, whatever they need to do to feel good about themselves.”
But Roloff’s tattoo holds special meaning for her, and she did it for herself to signify a new, beautiful chapter in her life.

“I didn’t take the idea lightly,” she told People magazine. “It took me three years to decide is this really what I wanted to do. I mean, it is permanent. ‘Should I or shouldn’t I? Is this going to hurt and how much? Am I doing something crazy just because it’s a milestone birthday?”
She wasn’t initially a fan of tattoos either, but she came up with the design herself: a combination of four daisies, two roses, a little heart (to represent love) and a tiny cross (to represent her faith) as well as the words: “four + more.”
“I was thinking of something simple and of course had some real meaning to me,” she told the publication of the meaning behind her ink. “Daisies are my favorite flower and of course a rose or roses. Being a mom to four kids is the most significant event and gifts of my life. Where I was and am in my life right now there is more to Amy and life. More life to live, experience, to give, to do and love.”
