Jesse Williams has responded to the hateful petition calling for his removal from Grey’s Anatomy in response to his BET Awards speech. The Change.org petition, which has over 22,000 signatures, claims his “racist rant” would have gotten him fired if “his offensive words been said by any other race other than an African American.” Naturally, there’s another counter-petition to keep Williams on the show. That one has almost hit the 10,000 supporter mark.
For his part, Williams has responded to the call for his firing. In reaction to a story about the rapidly rising amount of signatures, he tweeted: “Because you keep incessantly promoting their cowardly intolerance! Not a single sane sentence in their claim. Not One.”

When it comes down to whether or not Williams is going to keep his job, there’s only one person who matters. His boss is Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rimes. She’s standing behind him 100 percent. She tweeted, “Um, people? Boo don’t need a petition.”
Jesse, looks like your job is just as safe as it should be.
